What happened?

On 27 July, Saturday around 6am in evening, 2 IAS aspirants death caused by flooding in basement in ‘Rau’s UPSC’ coaching Centre in RajendraNagar, Delhi.

Three students were trapped in the incident and one of them has been rescued by their colleagues in the basement area where was the library. Unfortunately, the other two students lost their lives. This tragic event has deeply affected the other students.

Current Situation

Delhi Central Harsh Vardhan is closely monitoring the situation and has taken charge of the incident. He noted that rescue teams, including the Delhi Fire Service and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have arrived on the scene and are actively working to address the crisis. Harsh Vardhan mentioned that heavy rainfall in the evening has also exacerbated the situation and leading to increased water accumulation on roads and in various buildings as well.

Raised Concern

The MLA of Delhi, Atishi, has submitted a letter to the Chief Secretary and highlighted two critical actions required in response to the incident.

1. She has requested an immediate magisterial inquiry to be initiated and a comprehensive report submitted within 24 hours regarding the same incident.

2. She emphasized the need for the strongest possible action against those whose negligence has caused this incident and insisting that anyone found guilty should face consequences without delay.

Student’s View on incident

There are a lot students standing outside the incident area and protesting against the government for their mismanagements. They said, “If they wanted, they could have saved the children. No one came for 4 hours to drain water from basement, what a bad system it is becoming.”

However, such incidents had also happened in the past and no action had taken to improve the cause of death of that one UPSC aspirant. This is how our governance is performing and considers themselves very effective and success. Not, they are not having good governance.
